The Animation department of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest (MOME) was founded over 35 years ago, and has since become one of the defining creative workshops and intellectual centres of European animation. Its scope of activities cover the operation of the university department running the animation BA and MA educational programs, while its work is defined by activities that reach beyond education. MOME Anim received the Best Animation School Award at Animafest Zagreb this June.

Rabbit and Deer are living happily and careless until their friendship is put to the test by Deer’s new obsession to find the formula for the 3rd dimension. After an unexpected accident Deer finds himself in a new world, unknown to him. Separated by dimensions the two characters have to find the way back to each other.
A house party coming to life from the beginning to the end. Starting with simple drinking and chatting which is followed by music, and the guest just keep on arriving. They drink so much that the party becomes a catastrophe. The film was inspired by the novel of Boris Vian titled Vercoquin et le plancton.
Based on an unconventional narrative, the film presents a subjective world through 47 scenes. The small events, interlaced by associations, express the irrational coherence of our surroundings. The surreal situations are based on the interactions of humans and nature.
The film premiered in the competition program of Berlinale in 2014, and was shortlisted for the 2015 Oscars.

MOME Anim is actively present in the European animation education scene, and participates in a wide range of international programs like Animation Sans Frontiérès (ASF), EURANIM, Essemble.
Incubation also plays an important part in the life of the department: talent management, project incubation and content development are of great importance, with MOME Anim also producing works of alumni students.
For the wide public, MOME Anim organises KISKAKAS Animation Celebration presenting an overview of its partner schools, while KISKAKAS Film Club offers curated international selections of animated shorts. The department also organises film premieres, while for the animation profession it offers presentations and other forums. The aim is to strengthen the progressive trends of Hungarian animation, and at the same time increase its international visibility. All these processes help generations of young animation professionals to successfully start their career, and the vivification of the genre in Hungary and our European region.
MOME Anim has in the past few years achieved worldwide reputation thanks to the amazing student films created at the department. The Noise of Licking, the MA diploma film of Nadja Andrasev recently premiered in the 2016 Cannes Film Festival’s Cinéfondation selection, and is also in the competition program of Animafest Zagreb and later this summer in Annecy. Symphony no. 42 of Réka Bucsi premiered at Berlinale Shorts in 2014, and was later shortlisted for the 2015 Oscars.
