Case study: Vanamehe Multikas


Estonians Peeter Ritso and Mikk Mägi created web series Vanamehe Multikas or Old Man’s Cartoon four years ago. These stories of dark humour and old man’s adventures have since gained more than 4,5 million views. In the screening Ritso and Mägi will tell us how they got started and how they have kept on doing a really independent animation series. With each shown clip they will also tell a bit of backstory how each joke came to be.

Peeter has started making short digital animations already before high school in about 2001. After high school he went to study animation in Estonian Academy of Arts in 2008. There came the idea to do the “Vanamehe Multikas” series which he has been partly doing until today. Besides that he has been doing commercial animation projects in BOP Animation studio. 
Mikk Mägi was born in 1987 and is an estonian filmmaker of both live-action and animated films. He works in his production studio BOP! and also in the Estonian Art Academy animation department. At the moment he is working on a short animation called “Solstice” that premieres in the beginning of 2017.
