Turku Animated Film Festival kicks off with multi-award winning artist duo IC-98’s piece A View from the Other Side (2011). This meditative piece is shown for the first time in its birthplace by the River Aura, cherishing the artist duo’s original vision. In the film, a colonnade known as Pinella changes through centuries, accompanied by a soundscape improvised by Turku Cathedral’s organist Markku Hietaharju. The film was animated by Markus Lepistö.
Vähätori, terrace of Tiirikkala, Wed 9pm, free entry.

IC-98 (originally Iconoclast, founded in 1998) is Visa Suonpää and Patrik Söderlund. IC-98’s projects often take the form of installations or publications, combining research, text, drawing and animation. Their intensely abstracted, identifiable visual language weaves myriad bridges between the material and mythical, individual and collective, nature and culture. The works concern the body politic, social formations and architectural constructions, different ecologies and the presence of human and natural history in everyday life.
The works of IC-98 has been presented in exhibitions, biennales and projects around Nordic countries, Europe, The USA and Asia. In 2015, IC-98 represented Finland at Venice Biennale.
