TAFF is happy to announce a very special workshop on interactive animation, taking place during the festival. The workshop is hosted by filmmaker and animator Michael Frei and game designer and developer Mario von Rickenbach from Switzerland, and it is aimed at professionals of animation.
Frei is known for his multi-awarded animations Not About Us and Plug & Play. Von Rickenbach has created games such as Plug & Play, Mirage, Krautscape, Drei and Rakete. The duo is currently working on a multichannel production Kids – an interactive animation, short film and exhibition.
In Turku, Frei and von Rickenbach host a workshop that aims at creating physics-based interactive animation in Unity – a free development platform. Participants are given input and basic tools to create simple interactive scenes based on their own artwork. Coding skills are not required. Participants are expected to bring their own laptop with Unity and their preferred animation tools installed. The two-day workshop (2x3h) takes place August 30–31 at Turku Arts Academy. The price of the workshop is 20 euros.
In the opening event of the festival on August 29th Frei and von Rickenbach will talk about their collaboration as a filmmaker-gamemaker duo creating interactive animations. They will share insights into their working methods by showing the process behind projects like Plug & Play or Kids.
To participate in the workshop fill in this registration form. The workshop is supported by AVEK in cooperation with Turku Academy of Arts.
