“The new millennium brought a revival for short animated films in Slovenia. The new generation has original stories to tell, technological and cinematic knowhow and is eager for international visibility. Among the presented authors, Dušan Kastelic, a self-thought 3D computer animation guru is the most experienced. The international success of his films is exceeded only by Špela Čadež, who specialized in animation in Germany and is among the most rewarded Slovenian film authors. Špela started with puppet animation and lately swaped to cut-out animation using a personalized multiplane table. Leon Vidmar, specializing in puppet animation and Timon Leder using all that 2D and 3D computer technology offers, are the new talents to watch out for. Boris Dolenc used a short comic story by Serbian author Vladan Nikolić published in the comics magazine Stripburger, for the most hilarious film in the program. Kolja Saksida and Grega Mastnak are putting all their (and their teams) effort into the production of episodes for their original animated series for children Koyaa and Prince Ki-Ki-Do. This selection of authorial films made by Slovenian authors in different animation techniques is the proof of the quality level of the new Slovenian animation scene.”
The program is presented in partnership with the Animateka International Animated Film Festival and the DSAF Slovenian Animated Film Association.
