The Intolerance Trilogy

The Intolerance Trilogy marks for me the end of a way of working that I had been using for a decade. There were many reasons for this, but chief among them was my own feeling that my work had gradually become too refined. It had begun to lack that rough energy that had characterised the work I was doing at the beginning of the nineties. I was beginning to become too good at what I was doing. In my opinion, a mistake. Generally people liked the work more, but, for me, that did not mean it was better. In fact I took this to mean that my work was becoming more digestible, too easy to swallow. I believe that it is important that there is some confrontational aspect to the work, something that challenges an audience.”
