About TAFF
TAFF is a celebration of short animation! This year we have a special reason to celebrate: the festival is turning 10! Debuting in August 2016, the Turku Animated Film Festival is Finland’s youngest and most charming international animation film festival, celebrating the art of animation and creative minds. TAFF was founded to promote animation film culture both in Finland and internationally. We bring open-minded and experimental animation art and its creators to Finland. We invite artists who have visions of the future and the ability to communicate them to participate.
This year’s theme is the future – the power of art to shape the future and participate in the constant change around us. Animation offers us new ways to dream, question, and build a better future together.
TAFF serves as an inspiring meeting place for filmmakers, industry professionals, and local animation enthusiasts. We are expanding the concept of film screening by bringing together film art and other forms of creativity – this year, we have invited visual and media artists to join us on our journey of discovery.
The festival’s competition series presents bold, original, uncompromising, and inventive animated films under 30 minutes in length. In addition to the competition series, the festival program consists of carefully curated themed screenings and a selection of side events.
TAFF will be held for the tenth time in Turku, Finland’s animation capital, from August 20 to 24, 2025. We welcome new and old animation enthusiasts to enjoy dozens of our different screenings and other events!

Impact
TAFF works purposefully to promote art and the work of artists. We highlight Finnish creators through our program and events. From the beginning, we have been a strongly international festival, working both to promote Finnish animation abroad and to showcase international animation art in Finland. We have successfully increased interaction with other art forms and will continue this development. However, the focus of our vision is always to keep art and especially animation art at the forefront of everything we do.
Festival values
The values of our festival are accessibility, equality, and respect. Through our program content and communication planning, we strive to promote internationality, openness, and inclusivity—also among the local non-professional audience. We always take diversity into account in our program planning. Our goal is to encourage people of all kinds and backgrounds to explore the rewarding world of animation.
Our festival also strives to promote equality. Through our application process, we ensure that the films we select have a balanced representation of different backgrounds. Our accreditation system has been modified to recognize gender diversity, and we take gender diversity into account in our communications.
TAFF is an Apartheid Free Zone (AFZ). We are committed to the boycotts of the international BDS movement and support the Palestinian struggle for freedom, equality, and human rights.
A sustainable festival
Our festival adheres to the principles of sustainable development and strives to improve its practices year after year. For us, planning the festival means long-term work to promote and support Finnish animation art.
We also take care and responsibility for the environmental friendliness of our events and the impact of our productions on climate change. We offer 100% vegan food to our visitors and staff. We recycle and use recycled materials. We promote climate-friendly transportation.
We work to promote fair remuneration practices and performance fees, and we develop socially sustainable services. We avoid financial risks. We produce events and other projects in a way that allows us to develop and grow our operations in a long-term and sustainable manner.
