TAFF seeks to promote animated film culture both in Finland and internationally. We are the biggest animated film festival in Finland, creating a platform for encounters between filmmakers, industry delegates and local lovers of animation. We’re also interested in extending the concept of film screening, bringing together cinema and other forms of creativity as well as entertainment.

The competitions for animated shorts will be held again in 2022. For the International Competition, International Student Film Competition, TAFF Junior Competition and National Competition we are looking for original, bold, uncompromising & inventive animated shorts under 30 minutes to compete for Grand Prix, Best Professional Film, Best Student Film, Tough Eye award, TAFF Junior Award, Main Prize in National Competition and Audience award in International Competition. In addition, the festival programme consists of a seductive selection of carefully selected special programme.

The two-day TAFF Pro on August 25-26, 2022 brings together Finnish and international animators and comic artists working in animation. This year’s theme is the combination of comics and animation. The program consists of master classes and panels as well as film screenings.

TAFF Pro strives to promote the vitality of the animation field and offers new ideas and contacts to industry players and students. You can find TAFF Pro’s daily program here.

From professionals to professionals

At the masterclasses, you will hear directly from the creators who combine animation and comics about their experiences and processes. The masterclasses are piloted by the well-known Maria Björklund, JP Ahonen, Samppa Kukkonen and Hanneriina Moisseinen, whose exhibition guests can admire throughout the festival at the Manilla Viinatehdas premises. The program is aimed at those working in both animation and comics.

In the panel discussions, the convergence of animation and comics will be examined, as well as production and copyright issues.  The panel examines the topic from the perspective of authors, production and copyrights.

The primary language of the TAFF Pro program is English. Questions to the panelists and master class leaders can also be asked in Finnish.

TAFF takes place in the hometown of the renowned Turku Arts Academy. Our venue is a beautifully restored old factory milieu by the River Aura in Turku, Finland.

TAFF is organized by the non-profit Association Turun elokuvatapahtumat ry.
