Animation students of Turku Arts Academy present: Behind the Scenes Exhibition
Turku Arts Academy is excited to collaborate with the ninth Turku Animated Film Festival this year. Us animation students of the Arts Academy are presenting a “Behind the Scenes” themed exhibition at Viinatehdas Manilla. The exhibition demonstrates what it is like to study animation in Turku Arts Academy during the present day. It consists of sixteen finished animations and works in progress.
“School is the best time to experiment and make mistakes” is something you often hear the teachers say at the Arts Academy. That’s why in this exhibition you can see various techniques such as traditional and digital hand drawn animation, puppets coming to life with the help of stop-motion, 3D experiments and automaton.
Students experiment with the limits of animation – What exactly can animation be? Here you might see it applied in ways you’ve previously not thought of. Even an exercise bike can be used to animate!
One of the themes of TAFF this year is text, which is an important tool for animation and students. Text helps us come up with ideas, learn and create. Many animated films would not exist without a script. Sometimes text itself is the main character of animation. So, naturally text is also a very visible part of this exhibition.
What animation almost always requires is teamwork and skills of various kinds. We are very grateful that we have events like TAFF which allow us to gather together and celebrate animation.
Like an artwork, a student is constantly in the process of growing up and changing. We hope that you enjoy this exhibition, and that it can provide an interesting showcase of what studying animation can look like.
