Finnish animation master to visit Turku this summer

Katariina Lillqvist, a respected Finnish film and animation artist, will be visiting Turku in August to delight animation lovers at TAFF. Based in the Czech Republic, Lillqvist has worked in animation for more than 30 years and enjoys international renown. During her career, she has directed twenty short animations, as well as several documentaries and radio programmes.

Lillqvist is particularly known for her puppet animations and enjoys a reputation of skillfully fusing literary art and animation. She has won numerous awards during her career, including the Silver Bear at the Berlinale and the main prize at the Tampere Film Festival.

In addition to a special screening of Lillqvist’s film during the festival week, the animator will be a member of the international jury to award the best films in this year’s festival’s competition and will lecture at TAFF Pro, an event for professionals in the field. In his lecture, Lillqvist will present his animation trilogy based on short stories by Franz Kafka.
